In the rush of everyday life, we often don’t get the chance for the deeper questions, or often much beyond everyday conversation. We can spend holidays with our families, and speak with them regularly online or on the ‘phone, and never learn much more about their history, childhood, relationships, memories or their feelings. Living Legends provides an opportunity for unasked questions to be answered, and for untold stories to be brought to life.

Living Legends covers all of the UK, from our base in Hertfordshire. We have local teams of experienced video hosts and professional videographers, and can normally book new sessions within 4-6 weeks depending on customer requirements.

We offer 3 packages - Treasure Trove, Living Legends, and Chapter & Verse.

A Treasure Trove filming session is for 60 minutes minimum, for Living Legends the session is at least 1½ hours, with Chapter & Verse we film for at least 2½ hours.

With the Living Legends and Chapter & Verse packages, we also take time to include family photographs and videos in the final footage.

The time to finalise and professionally edit your session varies between the packages. We put a lot of care and attention into your video, so this typically takes between 2-6 weeks.

The longer the session, the deeper the discussion can be, and more anecdotes and memories recounted! For an individual, a 1 hour session can result in a great final video. For couples and more chatty individuals, longer sessions work best.

Video recordings are currently taking place approximately 4-6 weeks after you have reserved your session - depending on where in the UK you are located and how busy our local teams are. If you contact us with your session requirements and location, we can provide an indication of some dates/times that could work from our side.

If there is an urgent reason for your session to be prioritised, please let us know and we will try to be as flexible as possible.

We record videos 7 days per week currently, and will book in the best date and time with you straight after your reservation.

We want all of our clients to be as relaxed as possible, and have found that filming in our clients’ homes helps to put them at ease, and removes the stress of having to travel to our studios or other locations.

We are typically in your home for between 2½ and 4 hours, depending on the session you have booked, the time it takes for us to set up / pack up our equipment, and time we spend chatting and looking over family photos and momentos before the session.

We can film at our studios and other locations if your home is not ideal for filming. Please contact us to let us know where you are based, and we can propose some dates, times and location(s).

No! Don’t worry about us! A cup of tea never goes amiss, but we’ll gladly make one for you on the day.

No, the price listed is the price you pay. Our session costs include travel and accommodation for our team.

There are no hidden extras.

We understand that life happens. If you need to postpone for any reason, we will happily reschedule to a better date and time. The more notice you can give us, the better.

In the event that we need to reschedule - for transport issues, weather, illness or other reasons, we will let you know as soon as possible and prioritise a new time that works for you.

If you wish to cancel entirely, we will refund you 75% of the cost of your session reservation, provided you let us know more than 28 days away from your originally booked session date.

We carefully plan each session with you, including when and where the session will be - and everything else that’s needed for you to be relaxed and comfortable on the day.

An experienced host and videographer will visit you at the agreed time and date, and set up the video and audio recording equipment for the session in your home. They will record the session, and guide you through a range of questions that will help you to tell the story of your life - in your own words, and at your own pace! We will also take copies of any family photographs or videos that you would like to share, to be included in the final video. After the session we’ll pack up tidily and get back to our studios to lovingly edit your video for you!

Our video hosts are experienced in putting people at ease and actually making the process fun and enjoyable!

While we have professional camera and lighting equipment, once the talking starts that tends to be quickly forgotten about, and a more natural, friendly atmosphere develops!

From animated and enthusiastic, to withdrawn and grumpy, we encourage people to open up and relax.

Our videos are generally recorded at 4K Ultra HD resolution or better. We typically use 2 or more cameras for each recording, both to provide different camera angles, and as a backup for the primary camera.

We produce broadcast quality videos, which are carefully edited and reviewed before we share them with you.

Yes - we have backups for every component of our recording setup, from the audio recording through to the video cameras and lighting. We also take secure digital backups of our footage.

You will be provided with a link to a private, secure online folder, which will enable you to upload any digital family photographs, or home movies stored as digital files.

We will happily take copies of photographs from photo albums, and home movie footage from cassette tapes or DVDs, when we visit you for the recording session.

Our aim is to make the process simple and straightforward for everyone, and our team will help where we can. We don’t take physical photos or footage (DVDs, cine film etc.) from our clients’ homes - only copies, so you can be sure that your keepsakes are always in your possession.

You will receive a link to an online file, for you to review and approve the final video. After your approval, we will send out a USB key, with your high quality, edited Living Legends session.

Most ‘smart’ televisions now enable USB files to be played directly. This digital recording can also be easily copied and shared amongst your family.

Upon request, we can share a DVD of the same session.

As with the majority of videographers in the UK, Living Legends owns the copyright of the material we film. We then give you a licence to use the footage for unlimited personal use.

You are assigned full and unrestricted personal usage rights to share and distribute your video (and any still photographs from it). You can use clips or still photographs on social media channels if you wish to, share with friends and family, and get prints made.

We request that we retain the ability to use one or more short clips or photographs for our marketing purposes, eg. on our website, and for training purposes. At no time will personal family stories, anecdotes or larger video sections be used without your express permission.

Our videos are very natural, genial biographies. We have done our job well if a loved one’s personality and character shines through in the final video.

You absolutely can, and this is a great idea! In our view, the more memories, photos and footage you can capture and preserve of your loved ones, the better!

Each Living Legends session typically involves over £30,000 of professional video, audio and lighting equipment - with a team that’s worked at the BBC, Sky, CNN and other leading organisations in the UK and abroad.

We will always try to accommodate client requests, so feel free to ask us on the day. If we are able to extend the session we will try. It’s always best to book or contact us in advance, so that we can make sure that the team can be available throughout!

Our clients are typically lovely, genial, chatty people who have hours and days of insights, stories and memories. We’ll never be able to capture them all, but we always want to do them justice in the time available.

A session is typically for 1-2 people, ie. an individual or a couple. For an in-depth video biography, we’d normally recommend 1 person, or one of our longer sessions.

Other combinations - eg. Father and Son, Mother and Daughter can also work really well.

Our UK-wide, regional teams include experienced interviewers, or ‘video hosts’. They are ‘video hosts’ because their role is to gently and sympathetically encourage you to share more about different aspects of your life and journey, to make you feel comfortable and able to open up, be candid and to enjoy the session!

After you have reserved your session, your video host will get in touch to discuss the session in detail, plan the logistics and answer any further questions that you have. You’ll also have contact details for your video host in preparation for the recording session.

Our video editors don’t just watch the footage from your recording session once - they typically review it carefully, several times - from 2 or more camera angles. They check and finesse the audio from multiple different microphones, adjust colour balances, add titles and transitions, and carefully and lovingly produce the final video.

Before the final version is shared with you, we watch it again - end to end - to check for any issues or glitches.

All of that takes time! We have an amazing crew of incredible editors but can get extremely busy and want to maintain the quality standards that we’ve set for ourselves.

By the way - our editing does not include any form of airbrushing or image manipulation. (You are perfect the way you are).
